Le Pas de Chavanette - The Swiss Wall

Famous as one of the steepest and most difficult runs in the world, the Pas de Chavanette is reserved for experienced skiers. It begins on the border between Switzerland and France; French enthusiasts call it “the Swiss wall”. Just over 1 km long, the run has a vertical drop of 400 m with gradients of more than 50%, demanding respect from all who would tackle it. After heavy snowfall, the moguls can grow to a height of two metres. Best, then, to gain plenty of confidence before tackling this monument of the Portes du Soleil ski area, where even the piste-grooming machines dare not venture.
