Winter hike "Forest Promenade" Bettmeralp closed

Without having to tackle any major climbs, you can enjoy magnificent views of Bettmeralp and the Valais mountains. Experience sheer hiking pleasure on the sunny plateau!

The starting point of this easy winter hike is the Bettmeralp cable-car mountain station. Walk from there to Hotel Aletsch at the eastern end of Bettmeralp village. Follow the path on the level through the Baschweri towards Martisbergeralp. After about half an hour, the path turns back 180° towards the west. After a slight incline, it continues on level terrain towards Alte Stafel. Passing the Berghaus Möriken hostel, you walk back to Bettmeralp.

Bettmeralp – Hotel Aletsch – Baschweri – Waldpromenade - Bettmeralp

The starting point of this easy winter hike is the Bettmeralp cable-car mountain station. Walk from there to Hotel Aletsch at the eastern end of Bettmeralp village. Follow the path on the level through the Baschweri towards Martisbergeralp. After about half an hour, the path turns back 180° towards the west. The point where the trail crosses the Fiescheralp–Bettmeralp winter hiking trail is a great spot for photos with a wonderful view of Bettmeralp!

Public transport

By train from Brig or Oberwald to Betten valley station. Take the Bettmeralp cable car (Aletsch Bahnen AG) up to Bettmeralp.

Approach

Take Kantonsstrasse 19 to the Betten valley station. The cable car (Aletsch Bahnen AG) takes you to Bettmeralp.

Large pay car park near the valley station of the Bettmeralp cable car (Aletsch Bahnen AG).

  • Weather conditions can change quickly in the mountains, without warning. Appropriate clothing is therefore essential, along with adequate supplies of food and water. In uncertainweather, turn back in good time.

  • Do not venture onto glaciers without a mountain guide.

  • Take note of the warning signs that point out the constant danger, especially the danger of avalanches.

  • Inform others of planned route, and whenever possible, avoid going alone.

The altitude and the route mean that good footwear is absolutely essential for this winter hike.
