The snowshoe trail starts at the mountain station and leads uphill for about 300 meters to Fleschboden Restaurant. After a well-deserved rest at the highest point of the excursion, the trail leads down the other side of the ski slopes back to the chalets of Rosswald and the top station of the gondola lift. The marked snowshoe trail is easy to walk with the appropriate equipment and is also suitable for beginners. The entire route, and especially the descent, is very sunny and offers a great view of the Rhone –Valley – all the way to Mittelwallis.

Turn-by-turn directions

Start this trail at the mountain station in the Rosswald and follow the marked slope to the restaurant. From there, continue left to the end of the car park. The trail leads through the forest to the old wooden chalets of the Alpe Rosswald. Now follow the markings on the old military trail through the Saflischwald forest until you reach the blue ski slope. From here it is not far to the intermediate destination. Hike along the ski slope to the Fleschboden restaurant. This is the highest point of the trail. The way back leads you downhill across the large area next to the ski lift into a section of forest. This is followed by a short, steep, zigzagging descent. Hike through the open forest with views of the Glishorn and into the Rhone Valley towards the Rosswald. To your left are the Gantertal, Wasenalp and the Simplon Pass. Return to the mountain station through the holiday flats and chalets.

Public transport

Rosswald is easy to reach by public transport. From Brig railway station take the Post Bus and then the cable car to Rosswald.

Approach

Take the motorway 9 to the exit Ried-Brig / Termen / Rosswald. Then follow Termen / Ried-Brig and stay on the road until the Rosswald cable car. Take the Rosswald cable car up to the Rosswald.

Parking

There is a car park at the valley station, which is subject to a charge.

  • Take note of the warning signs that point out the constant danger, especially the danger of avalanches.

This route is only accessible when the piste is open!

The trails are marked with wooden poles, which have a purple coating. In addition, reflective light bands are attached. We ask you to follow the marked routes in the interest of our forest and wildlife. Waste should be put back in your rucksack.

The winter conditions and protected areas of the animals are predominantly in the forest. In order to keep the animals quiet, you have to follow the path markings. Information boards at the respective starting points of the trails and at the necessary places point out this problem. In cooperation with the Wildhut and the forest managers, the listed trails have been classified as being game and forest friendly. The snowshoe walkers are asked not to leave the marked trails - for their safety and to protect the animals in the forest.
