Starting point for this run is the Rothorn (2,338 m), accessible via the eponymous T-bar from Giw (1,976 m). At the summit, skiers and snowboarders can choose between six different blue and red runs and one black run for the first section back to Giw. From here, one blue and one red piste lead all the way down to Visperterminen (1,340 m).

Founded in 1979, the St. Jodern winery is a cooperative with more than 500 members who produce nearly 300,000 litres of wine a year: about 400,000 bottles. The grapes are grown in the region around Visperterminen, nicknamed the “Heida village” (Heidadorf) after the star grape variety, the Heida. The area is home to some of Europe’s highest vineyards, in which work on the vines is done entirely by hand. Try some of the different local specialities including their Resi AOC Valais (made with grapes of the Rèze variety), which is certified Valais brand.

At the heart of Europe’s highest vineyards, discover the pretty village of Visperterminen and the “children’s world” created by the Kinderwelt foundation. The different play areas – which include “the labyrinth”, “the hall of mirrors” and “the flying dragon” – are located within five converted barns in the village centre. Each promises children a new world of adventure and endless fun.

Head to the start of the educational wine trail via PostBus, then make your way along Valais’s historic dry-stone walls up to the St. Jodern Wine Cellars, learning exciting facts about the local wine culture as you progress through the walk. Once you reach the wine cellar, you’ll get the chance to taste some local wines, including Heida, as well as trying a number of culinary specialities. Once you’ve finished your tasting, the PostBus will take you to Visperterminen. You can round off your day there with lunch and a circular hike along the Bisse de Beitra, enjoying the view of the Bietschhorn and Matterhorn mountains along the way.

Welcome to the legendary wine-themed hiking tour in Visperterminen. The trail sets off from Kaufplatz in the heart of Visp’s old town and follows old footpaths and mule tracks on a zigzagging course through the “Riebe” vineyards up to the settlement of Oberstalden above Visperterminen. You will be treated to culinary delights from Valais and Visperterminen at eight different stops along the way.
