St-Maurice Monastery

Aware of the worldwide importance of its historical and cultural heritage, the Abbey of Saint-Maurice has decided to open its doors to the public to explore 1500 years of history.

The visit to its cultural and heritage site begins in the basilica, which dates from the 17th century. Then, a diversion through the bell tower allows you to visit the temporary exhibition. You then walk through the archaeological site of the ancient churches - also called the Martolet site - which is the result of ten years of excavations. Finally, you cross the catacombs before discovering the abbey treasury.

The visit takes about 1.5 hours and is based on light and images, symbols of knowledge and faith. It tells an exceptional story : that of a living religious community, miraculously preserved and constituting the unique testimony of a spiritual and cultural activity without equivalent in the Christian western world.
